The pandemic has created havoc across the country. People are unable to receive even basic healthcare support. Healthcare is ignored because people refrain from visiting hospitals and clinics due to high exposure to infections. In addition to that, the division between the rich and the poor continues to increase, leaving a significant portion of the population without access to basic healthcare services, most of whom live either in rural India or urban slums. As part of our contribution to social enhancement, we have worked in 10 undeveloped villages in the North-East region of the country, supporting more than 150 residents with basic provisions for better health, hygiene and culture.
India is home to over 20 percent of the world’s blind population. Unfortunately, it is also home to the largest number of blind children in any one country. With extensive research, it was found that 75% of blindness cases can be avoided. This is due to the lack of resources or health services in rural areas.
While India needs about 50,000 optometrists, it has only about 12,000 of them, the majority of whom live and practice in urban areas. Blurry vision and increased glare from lights can result in cataract, which makes it difficult for one to perform day-to-day normal activities. Cataracts remain the largest cause of blindness worldwide. Cataracts may cause moderate or severe vision impairment, and can even lead to blindness. People may have a bilateral or unilateral cataract, so it is more useful to consider the number of eyes than the number of people who require surgery. Due to lack of awareness, rural populations are hesitant of Cataract surgeries. Moreover, they don’t have suitable facilities or professionals in their villages to perform it.
Serve Samman tries to reach such underprivileged areas and organise free eyecare camps and create awareness. The aim behind this is to provide free spectacles, medication, eye kits and advice to those in need. Visiting patients at the camp are provided proper guidance on hygiene, deworming, healthy nutrition, sanitization, precautions on covid and benefits of vaccination. In case any patient requires advance care or cataract surgeries, suitable guidance and referral are made. People identified with cataract are taken to ICARE hospital, Noida, where free cataract surgeries are done. To ensure complete treatment of the patient we offer free pick-up and drop service as well as free stay and meals during the surgery.
Our team of doctors consist of Orthopaedics, General Physicians and Psychologists. Apart from opening mobile dispensaries and hospitals, our team actively distributes relevant medication to people living in villages and remote areas.
ServeVahan is a Project by Serve Samman, an ISO certified non-profit NGO, registered with the Govt of India. Established in the year 2012 and registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882.
Under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Rajeev Bajaj, a tech evangelist and serial entrepreneur, we at Serve Samman are strategizing to transform rural healthcare infrastructure. Our mission is to expand healthcare opportunities for people residing in backward regions in the foothills of the Himalayas, especially Sub Urban and Rural Uttarakhand.
Our objective is to create a rapidly expandable Healthcare infrastructure to provide medical services at the doorsteps of those in need. Backed with IoT and remote monitoring technology, our mobile clinic ServeVahan can provide medical services such as spot testing, clinical examination, and diagnostics with assisted Telemedicine consultations in remote and inaccessible areas, where necessary healthcare infrastructure has not been established.
In addition to general OPD and free distribution of medicines, we also carry out eye care check-ups, facilitate cataract surgeries, host awareness workshops on hygiene, undernutrition prevention, and communicable diseases.
There exist various obstacles in the lives of those belonging to economically backward communities. From receiving even basic education to getting proper healthcare, the underprivileged have truly suffered. Serve Samman has undertaken various initiatives to bring about a change in their lives and help build a healthier and self-sustainable community. We distribute free medication and spectacles to those in need. Various vocational courses are available at our centers designed to help them become self-reliant.
We have provided relief in major disaster-hit areas of Nepal, Kashmir, and Uttarakhand by arranging shelter, food, and health services for those affected by the earthquake and floods. Serve Samman workers met the grief-stricken families to provide them with the required aid to fast-track the road to recovery.
Our Team Members Stationed in Nepal, not only helped the villagers receive relief in terms of food and medication but also helped them rebuild their homes. Even though most of them were doctors, they did a phenomenal job in helping the villagers resettle. They brought sheets for 172 houses and helped resurrect almost 3 complete villages where no relief had reached even after 10 days of the Earthquake.
After successfully providing aid in Nepal post the earthquake, Serve Samman went once again to build bore wells and install water pipelines to ensure water supply in Archale Village, where there was no water supply. As the relief work came to an end, Serve Samman took a step forward towards the resurrection of the village.
Our team has further gone the extra mile to help those lives which have been severely affected by the pandemic. We have been actively involved in setting up camps for the distribution of ration, food, face masks, hand sanitisers and more, amidst the imposed Covid-19 lockdown since 2020.
Our team has further gone the exReusable Sanitary Pads distribution in association with The Moon Catcher Project and Sashi Kiran Charitable Trust.
Serve Samman has various centres up and running to support the underprivileged youth and provide them with the means to develop a skill set that will help make them become self-reliant and enhance their quality of life.
The centres are situated as follows:
Our centre at KOT was Serve Samman’s First Vocational Centre. While conducting eye camps at KOT village, Dadri, we realized that most people in the village were unemployed simply due to a lack of resources. Hence, we decided to start our first centre to generate employment for a few.
Before we knew it, we had established a centre which offered Computer Training and Sewing Training to those in need in the nearby villages. Initially, it was tough to get students to join. However, once the word spread, the response became very overwhelming and more and more students started joining in. With their constant interest and motivation, there was no looking back for the team at Serve Samman.

Earthquake; Uttarakhand and Kashmir after the floods, by arranging shelter, food, and health services for those affected.
To further our cause, we have launched our own Mobile Medical Units providing quality healthcare, medical supplies, telemedicine, eye care, and various other services which are free of cost. ServeVahan will help us reach those who are unable to reach us for help
India has a population of about 1.3 billion people, out of which a large portion lives in poverty. These economically weaker sections of the society are vulnerable to poor health and hygiene. In addition, they have little to no means to obtain a good education or basic skills to break this vicious cycle of poverty.
Most underprivileged people aren’t able to receive the medical attention they require due to the lack of facilities and shortage of healthcare professionals in their areas. Moreover, a lack of funds restrains them from reaching out for the necessary help.
Insufficient funds are also the leading factor behind stopping the education of their children in economically weaker families. The dreams of numerous hard-working students are shattered due to a lack of financial support.
Serve Samman works towards uplifting the underprivileged communities by tirelessly working in several areas to spread awareness about the importance of good education, nutrition and hygiene, and providing means to achieve the same.
A large portion of the underprivileged youth is forced to drop out of secondary school due to various socio-economic factors. To provide aid to them, we have designed various courses for children who wish to develop new skills to get jobs and lead a self-sustainable life.
Serve Samman currently runs various vocational centres, where approximately 80-120 students are enrolled. The courses provided at these centres aim to make the students self-reliant. Underprivileged children belonging to low-income families, from nearby villages are selected to attend our program.
Women are the worst affected due to poverty and unemployment. Having no means to create an income, they need to depend on men for everything. If the men are also unemployed, their situation worsens. We can empower such women with skills that help them become either small entrepreneurs or get respectable jobs and become self-reliant.
In our centres, theoretical and practical training in beauty and cosmetology is available for those children who wish to work in these industries and become working professionals.
ServeSamman has recently started training women in make-up and hairstyling so that they take a step towards self-grooming along with becoming independent. Our sewing centres train interested women in embroidery, stitching and fashion designing from scratch, enabling students to get jobs at a boutique or in the garment industry. Further, basic tailoring skills enable women to work from home, earn and look after their families. The course duration is 6 months for basic cutting & sewing. The participants can progress to the next level of training in detailed art & creativity.
Started with one sewing centre having 6 sewing machines, and 18 students in Kot, Dadri (Uttar Pradesh); it has now expanded to six centres in UP, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.
We are currently running 2 (Two) centres, one each in Village Devli, near Sangam Vihar, New Delhi, where 120 students are enrolled and Mahavir Enclave, in Janak puri, New Delhi . where approx. 80 students are enrolled. Vocational training programs are carried out at these centres, as follows;
All courses duration is for 6 months basic plus 6 months advance and passing examinations is necessary for certification for all courses. Course curriculum and certification is carried out by external agencies , such as LAKME, SINGER, Jan Shiksha Sansthan – PRAYAS.
English is the most popular language worldwide. Communicating in English has become a necessity to excel professionally. The main hurdle for the rural youth to rise in their careers is a lack of knowledge in the language. To overcome this hurdle, we have set up English Learning centres to help them learn the language easily and effectively. This makes them ready for interviews and other opportunities.
Serve Samman had opened its very first literacy centre for the underprivileged in Delhi, catering mainly to primary and junior school children of ages 6-15. Most of the children here have never attended any form of formal schooling. We aim to provide these children with quality education, to help them develop holistically. Tuition support for children who require extra help is also provided.
In India’s small towns and villages, someone with even a master’s degree is unable to be employed, whereas vocational training in the repair of computers, printers, mobile phones, and basic software skills, can give immediate employment to students who haven’t even graduated school. As the labour market becomes more specialized and economies demand higher levels of skill; vocational training focusing on practical skills for students is the need of the hour so that bright employment opportunities are created.
It is difficult for the big multinational manufacturers to provide technological repair services in every town and village, here there is a nascent demand for such services from trained and qualified persons. Students undergoing a 6 month to one year course will get hands-on training enabling them to start earning post receiving their certificate. As part of our strategy to train and empower the underprivileged with self-sustaining skills, we have set up Computer training centres in Delhi, NCR. The computer courses are for three months each, starting with the Basics and graduating to the Advanced level. Training in theoretical and practical aspects of MS office (Excel, PowerPoint, Paint), HTML, Corel Draw, Cyber security and Photoshop is given to help introduce digital literacy and move forward with the changing technology.
All courses are taught for 6 months for the basic level and an additional 6 months for the advanced level. Apart from offering specialised courses, we also offer various skill development courses to the students which are in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of PRADHAN MANTRI KAUSHAL VIKAS YOJNA. It is necessary to pass the final examination to receive certification for all specialised courses. Course curriculum and certification is carried out by external agencies, such as Lakme, Singer, Jan Shikshan Sansthan – PRAYAS. All the courses at Serve Samman Vocational Centres are certified by JAN SHAKTI SHIKSHA SANSTHAN (JSS).
ServeSamman, along with C & S Electrical Limited, repaired the only Primary School in the village and reopened it for the children. They also distributed free water bottles, tiffin boxes, biscuits and juices. Moreover, water purifiers were installed in the school and at two other locations to ensure a clean and hygienic water supply for the children.
Apart from providing courses at our centres, ServeSamman has been actively involved in providing scholarships to meritorious students at various levels (school and college) to provide them with better opportunities for higher education and thereby helping them reach their highest potential and gain employability.
