MORE AND MORE KIDS JOIN SERVE SAMMAN EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL CENTRE

It gives me immense joy and pride to share with you all that the strength of our educational and vocational centre has gone up to 180. From finding an apt location and identifying initial 30 kids with whom we’ll start our centre to increasing the number of kids to 80 n then to 110 and eventually to 180 kids today, our journey has been a beautiful and unexplainable experience.

FROM CLASSROOMS TO THE SPORTS FIELDS

Cricket in India is more than just a sport! Even before they learn how to read and write they know which cricketer they would like to be when they grow up. But unfortunately, most kids even though love the sport don’t get an opportunity to play it. In order to give the kids a break from their regular classes, on 22nd November ’14, our sponsors and volunteers, played Cricket with about 30 kids from our Tuglakabad Centre. Though they all played cricket in the park opposite their centre, the joy in their eyes was visibly evident, and felt like they were playing in a stadium! It was a heartwarming feeling to see the kids forget about all their worries and problems and get totally involved in the game. We would specially like to thank our volunteers and sponsors who volunteered their precious time to play cricket with our kids. While the kids had a lot of fun, so did our sponsors.

Their experience was beautifully quoted by one of the sponsors who played there. He said “I have been playing cricket since I was a child, played with my friends, school team, interschool, etc. but never ever have I felt like such an achiever the way I feel today! These kids have arisen my hidden child”

Post the game all our kids and sponsors together sat and had Samosas and a Fruity each!

IT’S MC DONALD’S TIME!!!

At times you don’t need a reason to celebrate! In order to reward the kids for their hard work in the past few months, we decide to give the kids a Mc. Donalds Meal along with a sweater to welcome winters! Never ever have we seen kids enjoy a burger meal sooo much!!! It was overwhelming to see the kids at our NGO eat a MC'Donalds burger for the first time in their lives!!!!

Another surprise visitor!

Saint Gobain visit, Chennai

Given our long standing partnership with Saint Gobain, it was indeed a pleasure to welcome Mr. John Prem, social responsible investment coordinator of the company who visited 5 schools in a span of 2 days starting 22nd of January.

His curiosity for the functioning of the program and its impact led him to take time out of his busy schedule. He also glanced through the notebooks and other teaching materials used by the staff and discussed the challenges faced by the students.

Mummy Exhibition, Mumbai

In the last week of February, Reliance Foundation and BP, in collaboration with the British Museum and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, brought to India an award winning exhibition, ‘Mummy: The Inside Story’. The exhibition focused on the secrets of an Egyptian priest who died nearly 3000 years ago depicted by a 3D film.

This was an eye opener for 22 Nanhi Kalis that got an opportunity to participate. Nanhi Kali hopes to continue providing several more underprivileged girls in India with such opportunities.
